Position Purpose and Summary 

Microserve is looking for an Application Services Manager to join our team.  This role can be performed anywhere within Western Canada.  This is a full-time position providing day-to-day leadership and hands-on technical for all Microserve’s line of business systems; with an aim to improve client experience and customer value.  

The App services manager will lead two teams: the automation team, and the support team.  The automation team is currently focused on redeveloping our custom applications on Microsoft Power Platform. As applications are redeveloped it is expected the automation team will then focus on working with each area of our business to automate and improve efficiency, driving lower costs over time. The application support team will focus on providing timely, high-quality day today operational support for all our production applications, including support and development for custom integrations with our suppliers and client systems, as necessary. 


Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide leadership for first line support for Connectwise Manage, Connectwise Sell, other custom developed Line of Business Applications  

  • Develop deep knowledge of our existing business applications and provide consulting for internal Microserve teams to optimize the use of software and align to client requirements such as billing, service level agreement reporting, and many other elements 

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and document complex user and system issues; escalate support when required to the appropriate vendor or subject matter expert 

  • Leading the automation team and working with various Microserve teams and stakeholders to architect and build new PowerApps and Power Platform technologies 

  • Leading the support team to maintain and develop custom built internal software tools to provide creative solutions to data, reporting and automation challenges 

  • Assist in the maintenance and development of applications, including 24×7, high-availability systems 

  • Conduct application testing, engage users for acceptance testing, collect and summarize test data 

  • Drive the team to create organized and informative system documentation, including details of application configuration and installation  

  • Contribute to and maintain a knowledge base of previous support issues 

  • Technical oversight including close review of documentation, designs and implemented solutions alike, for solution assurance down to code level 

  • Provide input into Project Charter development; from scoping and requirements gathering, to effort estimates and prioritization 

  • Manage staffing levels, recruitment, performance management, training and professional development for all team members  

  • Coaching and addressing underperforming team members or personnel issues immediately 

  • Help new recruits to become team players as quickly and as seamlessly as possible, and operationally assist them as our managed service business scales 

  • Manage and Track training plans for all App Services Team members 

  • Monitoring and managing People Performance KPIs specific to App Services  

  • Track and Manage team member timesheet and expense approvals weekly 

  • Time off (e.g. Vacation and sick day) management in HR information system 


Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing, developing and/or maintaining mission critical applications 

  • Proven ability and experience leading and motivating a team of developers and support staff  

  • Proficient in C#, .NET, HTML, PHP, Java, SQL, Python, CSS and JavaScript 

  • Experience in the Microsoft Power Platform highly desirable; at a minimum a willingness to learn and certify on latest Microsoft enterprise cloud technologies such as Dynamics 365, Office 365, Microsoft Azure. 

  • Experience with ConnectWise is considered an asset 

  • Have great attention to detail and be well organized 

  • Strong experience creating and maintaining technical documentation related to application development  

  • Strong resourcefulness, problem solving and project management skills. 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 

  • Experienced innovative thinker with proven results in a fast-paced environment.
