The mission of the Engineering Enablement Department - our platform organization - is to provide the composable building blocks, unified foundations, and operational guardrails that empower teams to assemble world-class engineering, data, and AI solutions at scale.

This is a unique opportunity to be the talent anchor of our Platform organization, the team responsible for building the technical foundation that powers Aritzia. As Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager, you will own the talent lifecycle for a team of high-performing engineers - from hiring and onboarding to performance calibration and career development. You will build high-trust teams, ensuring they are staffed, skilled, and psychologically safe, while driving organizational health and operational excellence. At Aritzia, we provide market-leading compensation packages designed to reward impact through our pay-for-performance philosophy.
The range for roles at this level is $100,000 - $300,000 CAD per year. Total compensation may include base, bonus and/or equity depending on the role, which has the potential to be greater than this range.

THE ROLE
As the Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager, you will:
- Lead and advance our people, through end-to-end people leadership across the 10 areas of management: Planning, Hiring, Onboarding, Evaluating, Developing, Engaging, Scheduling, Compensating, Transitioning, and Mitigating
- Ensure the team can execute against priorities by maintaining operational health (capacity, quality, sustainable pace) and partnering with Tech Leads and TPMs on planning, sequencing, and delivery
- Align individual performance and career planning with departmental goals, while partnering with TPMs on capacity planning to ensure the right headcount and skill mix are available to execute the roadmap
- Cultivate a collaborative environment centered on open communication, fostering fearless feedback and blameless retrospectives to drive continuous improvement
- Ensure teams are properly staffed and skilled to execute against product mandates, while coaching teams on DORA metrics (velocity & stability) to remove blockers and improve throughput
- Partner with Tech Leads to apply DORA and SPACE to balance delivery and sustainability: improve throughput and stability (DORA) while monitoring engagement and cognitive load (SPACE), using staffing, scope, and operational improvements to prevent burnout
THE QUALIFICATIONS
The Senior Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager has:

- The skills to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners in the pursuit of shared business outcomes
- Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for stakeholders and make decisions under pressure
- The ability to translate high-level strategy into clear expectations and accountability for the team (outcomes, responsibilities, growth plans), partnering with Tech Leads and TPMs on execution
- A dedication to quality and investing in results and new business opportunities that add value
- Proven skills, education, and/or applicable certifications in:
- Demonstrated strength in people management applied specifically within a technical context
- Experience using metrics (DORA/SPACE) to improve throughput and team health
- Skilled in navigating interpersonal conflict, managing burnout risks, and fostering psychological safety to maintain high-trust squads in high-pressure environments
- Sufficient understanding of modern software engineering (Cloud, DevOps, Data, AI) to evaluate performance, hire top-tier technical talent, and coach engineers
- Proficiency in operational health reporting, utilizing data to identify capacity bottlenecks, resource allocation needs, and systemic friction
- Demonstrated strength in people management applied specifically within a technical context
- A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize important work
- An understanding and a passion for the industry in which we operate
