Job Description:

TD's Digital Strategy & Innovation group focuses on accelerating TD's innovation agenda to position TD for the future. Within that group, the Enterprise Innovation & Design team steers our innovation agenda and leads the Design Center of Excellence.

Does that sound exciting? Do you want to help us define the future of customer and even colleague experience at TD? If yes, here's your chance. We are hiring for the position of Innovation Solution Developer where you will lead the process to develop innovative concepts.

The Innovation Solution Developer plays a key role in building new solutions for the team, rapidly bringing new concepts to prototype or proof of concept for technical feasibility, user testing and feedback. While developing new solutions, the Developer works directly with the TD Lab team, in a pod containing other Developers, user experience designers, and business analysts, to help actualize design work and concepts. Crucially, the Developer will also work directly with a team of university co-op students through project work and mentorship, providing guidance, knowledge, and support to one or more colleagues in an accessible way. This role reports directly to the Senior Manager - Lab Leader, TD Lab, within Enterprise Innovation.

The TD Lab team pursues initiatives for TD with a focus on "outside-in" innovation - concepts which start with a new technology opportunity, new market opportunity, or unique customer problem. In following the TD Innovation Framework, this Developer role is focused on solution and software development and experimentation within early stages (including Ideation, Exploration, and Validation) with an aim to maximize chance of product success.

With emerging complex technologies such as Generative AI, Immersive modalities such as Virtual & Augmented reality, forward looking improvements such as Quantum Computing, and physical opportunities including Robotics, this Developer role requires comfort in dealing with ambiguity and a passion for learning driven by focused curiosity. This includes working the team to jointly understand and educate the team on new technology opportunities, identifying where the team can safely leverage new tools and platforms, perform off-grid experimentation, and where appropriate support patent exploration for the team.

In this role at TD Lab, you will have an opportunity to explore emerging technologies, and be empowered to start/stop projects because of what the market tells you. Job Requirements:
  • Work closely with other developers and designers, and at times with TD lines of business, to develop extraordinary early-stage products and experiences
  • Work closely with co-op students in a mentorship role, and conduct resume reviews and interviews to hire co-ops each term
  • Participate in collaborative team ideation sessions and contribute to invention opportunities
  • Rapidly develop your vision of a solution into functional prototypes (this may include web, mobile, back-end, and/or physical deployments)
  • Continuously enhance knowledge / expertise in own area and keep current with leading-edge technologies, emerging trends / developments and grow expertise of the business, applications, infrastructure analytical tools and techniques
  • Investigate the potential of emerging and enabling technologies (e.g. AI, robotics, quantum, VR/AR, big data, platform features)
  • Document and present innovation areas of opportunity to the team based on your own findings and experiences
  • Participate in Design Thinking sessions with team members, leading to building personas, storyboards, flowcharts, wireframes and prototypes, while bringing a focus toward future technical possibilities and feasibility
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to quality, reusability and ease of maintenance
  • Represent the lab at public events including hackathons, conferences, and recruiting events.
  • Support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues / points of interest

Experience:
  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree or Technical Certificate
  • 5-7 years of relevant development experience including:
  • Object oriented programming languages
  • iOS (Swift), Android, or Flutter (Dart) mobile development experience
  • Experience and comfort working with Python, AI Frameworks, and Large Language Models
  • Web development experience (e.g. HTML, SCSS, ES6 JavaScript / Typescript, React, Vue, etc.)
  • RESTful APIs (e.g. NodeJS, Express, etc)
  • Understanding of cloud-based solutions and architecture
  • Git version control
  • Experience with an agile scrum methodology, and a user experienced focused development process.
