The role of Manager, Tax Regulatory Affair is responsible for tax-related inquiries and risk management providing both leadership, guidance, and expertise as it relates to complex tax matters with respect to the income tax act, including complex corporate actions to Registered Plans.

The Manager role reports to the Senior Manager, Tax Regulatory Affairs within Governance & Control providing leadership in tax regulatory guidance, conducting tax regulatory oversight and provide recommendations where appropriate to our TD Wealth partners

The successful candidate will focus on tax and corporate action - related inquiries and or risk and will work closely with partners across the organization including executives in the various Wealth lines of business, Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, Products, Credit, Registered Plans, Operations, Technology/Delivery, among others. The mandate is to help promote a sustained culture of best practices and compliance through the appropriate review and analysis.

We are looking for a self-motivated innovative thinker with a continuous improvement mentality, strong communication, business acumen and digital literacy.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert and central point of reference for internal business partners regarding Tax and complex corporate actions and provide the necessary guidance and support
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, capable of collaborating and fostering relationships within the Business and with cross-functional working groups
  • Accountable to remain current in developments in legislative and operational matters related to Tax & corporate actions and assess any implication/risks
  • Participate in TD Wealth Tax governance related project working groups.
  • Conduct strong data analysis and prepare meaningful reporting/materials providing key insights and recommendations that translate into sound business decisions.
  • Conducting industry research and staying current on best practices, products, and emerging risks and technologies.
  • Provide expert tax guidance by applying subject-matter knowledge to products, services and initiatives while monitoring and interpreting new or amended legislation, regulation and regulatory expectations to assess and advise on business impact.
  • Provide guidance on complex corporate actions, Wealth initiatives, regulatory requirements and tax-related policy, procedure and communications, including interactions with CRA, and industry committees.
  • Act as a first line of defense regarding tax risk in their business or corporate office area.
  • Act as a liaison between the first and second lines of defense and the center of excellence.

Job Description
  • 7+ years' of tax-function experience resulting in expert knowledge and understanding of Canadian income tax regulatory requirement.
  • CPA in-Depth Tax Program
  • Deep industry and compliance knowledge and expertise in the Tax regulations for all Registered Plan products
  • In depth knowledge of corporate actions concepts
  • Completion of a University degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Post graduate degree (Masters Degree) or Professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of risk management
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to communicate clearly at all levels, including ability to prepare executive level decks, memos and reports
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to build strong relationships and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage work under tight timelines and changing priorities
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft product suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc), in particular PowerPoint is essential.
