**AMENDMENT (DECEMBER 6, 2021) - CLOSE DATE EXTENDED TO JANAURY 21, 2021** Applications may be considered for other similar current and future vacancies, including permanent and/or temporary positions in various locations.
The Supreme Court of British Columbia has an opening in Vancouver/New Westminsterfor a Supreme Court Master to be appointed by Order in Council. Masters have jurisdiction to hear Chambers applications in interlocutory matters (such as amendment of pleadings, addition of parties, production of documents; and ensuring compliance with the Rules of Court); interim family applications (custody, guardianship, parenting responsibilities and child and spousal support); and applications in proceedings by way of Petition (foreclosures). Masters preside at Trial Management, Case Planning and Judicial Case Conferences. Additionally, Masters have all the jurisdiction of a Registrar of the Court and deal with assessment or review of costs as well as reviews of solicitors' bills under the Legal Profession Act; conduct inquiries referred by a Judge for recommendation of the Registrar for matters such as permanent support of a spouse and/or children; preside at accountings with respect to the balance owing under a mortgage or other security; and conduct accountings in estate matters. Masters sit as registrars in Bankruptcy.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
• Degree in law from a recognized University;
•Practiced as a barrister and solicitor for at least ten years, preferably in general practice with emphasis on civil litigation or family matters and litigation. Applicants with less legal practice may be considered if they have a good range of related legal or judicial or quasi-judicial experience.
• A member in good standing, or immediately eligible for membership, with the Law Society of British Columbia. As a Judicial Officer of the Court, the successful candidate must resign membership with the Law Society. Applicants selected to move forward in the hiring process may be assessed on the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies as outlined in the attached Job Profile located in the Additional Information section at the bottom of the posting.
