Senior Track/Civil Engineer

Responsibilities will include design and design guidance to other team members as well as a wide range of project requirements including but not limited to:
  • Performing the planning, monitoring, analysis and evaluation of the track designs to effectively address track design, construction, interface and maintenance issues in accordance with quality objectives and regulations, laws and standards; (ex. Metrolinx, CN, CP, TTC and AREMA);
  • Managing and leading trackwork design;
  • Performing design reviews pertaining to the design of the track alignment and trackwork through all project phases;
  • Being the Engineer of Record, signing and stamping track and rail corridor designs;
  • Managing track engineering staff and consultants engaged to provide specialized track design and verification;
  • Leading and performing development of and performance specifications and trackwork design to meet project requirements;
  • Execute preliminary and detailed design for rail and transit projects, including all right-of-way and roadway elements, horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, parking, drainage, environmental mitigation/ protection measures and associated works;
  • Prepare technical memos on relevant design elements, specifications and non-standard special provisions, and study reports (e.g. Preliminary Design Report);
  • Prepare contract drawings and documents for tender and construction;
  • Prepare and input to cost estimates;
  • Conduct research on transit related topics and prepare study reports;
  • Coordinate input from other disciplines, including managing information sharing and preparing fully integrated designs and reports;
  • Attend and at times lead project meetings with clients, architects and consulting disciplines;
  • Prepare study schedules, meeting minutes, and presentation materials;
  • Provide proposal preparation support when required;
  • Provide support during construction phase, including site visits and responding to technical issues related to the design;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering (civil or track preferred)
  • Registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario

  • Minimum of 10 years, preferably 15 years of relevant rail corridor experience
  • Proficient with AutoCAD/Civil 3D; experience with Microstation and InRoads as well would be an asset;
  • Experience in Rail Corridor Design;
  • Experience in project management and coordination;
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) would be considered as an asset;
  • Proven leadership and management skills;
  • Ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams and across different business units in a matrix organization with little to no supervision;
  • Ability to adapt well to changes in direction and priorities in a project and deadline-oriented environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, presentation, leadership, and report writing proficiency with a strong desire and ability to collaborate in problem solving in an integrated team environment;
  • Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.
